Finance Director - Life insurance

Oliver James have been engaged to embark on the search of a Director of Finance. this role will lead financial reporting and reinsurance accounting activities while driving process improvement and strengthening the overall control environment. The client operates in the life insurance, reinsurance, and asset management industry. This is a strong opportunity to join a market-leading platform at the forefront of complex reinsurance transactions, offering exposure to large-scale deals, cross-border reporting, and a highly strategic finance function. This role can sit in either Charlotte NC or Hartford CT.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the end-to-end financial reporting function across US GAAP and international regulatory bases Oversee accounting and financial oversight of reinsurance transactions, including deal execution and ongoing reporting Manage quarterly and annual reporting cycles, including disclosures aligned with SEC requirements Deliver insightful analysis on financial performance to senior leadership Partner closely with actuarial, legal, and treasury teams on transaction-related activities Establish and enhance internal controls in line with SOX and broader governance requirements Interpret and conclude on technical accounting treatment for complex or non-routine transactions Drive initiatives focused on automation, efficiency, and scalability of reporting processes Act as a key point of contact for auditors and external stakeholders, including counterparties

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA (or equivalent) strongly preferred ~10+ years of progressive experience within insurance, reinsurance, or financial services Deep expertise across US GAAP, Statutory reporting, and Bermuda-based regulatory frameworks (e.g., EBS) Proven experience supporting or leading accounting for reinsurance transactions Prior leadership experience managing teams and driving performance Strong understanding of SOX compliance and financial control frameworks Familiarity with financial systems such as Oracle, Hyperion, or similar tools Highly analytical with the ability to navigate complex accounting scenarios Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
