About Kodiak Electric Association Kodiak Electric Association, Inc. (KEA) is a member‑owned electric cooperative serving the community of Kodiak, Alaska. KEA is recognized nationally for its renewable energy leadership and commitment to reliability, innovation, and exceptional service. We are seeking a detail‑oriented and motivated Lead Accountant/Bookkeeper to join our Finance & Administration team. Position Summary The Lead Accountant/Bookkeeper supports KEA's daily accounting operations, month‑end and year‑end processes, financial reporting, and special projects. This position plays a key role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of KEA's financial records while providing excellent internal and external customer service. The role requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Key Responsibilities Perform accurate and timely recording, posting, and reporting of financial transactions. Maintain confidentiality of all accounting and customer service information. Assist with maintaining employee master files and preparing daily bank balance reports. Support preparation and reconciliation of sales tax, payroll, and accounts payable tax documentation. Process recurring journal entries, adjustments, and overhead/distribution accounts. Prepare, track, and collect miscellaneous receivables, including small claims filings when needed. Analyze journal entries for accuracy and compliance with RUS accounting standards, GAAP, and KEA policies. Monitor actual vs. budget expenses and submit reports for review. Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger monthly. Prepare audit materials and support annual audit processes. Reconcile bank accounts and support daily cash sheet transactions. Maintain electronic filing systems for accounting records. Assist with payroll and serve as backup for Accounts Payable/Payroll Clerk and Member Services Representatives. Maintain cybersecurity awareness and complete required training. Stay current with NISC software updates and apply enhancements to workflows. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Four‑year degree in a business‑related field preferred; equivalent education/experience considered. High school diploma or equivalent required. Four years of accounting or office experience preferred. Knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting standards preferred. Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Ability to operate standard office equipment and 10‑key calculator with speed and accuracy. Must complete the RUS Accounting Course within two years of hire. Must hold a valid Alaska driver's license and be insurable under KEA's insurance program. Working Conditions Office environment with periods of sitting, standing, walking, and stair climbing. Requires strong communication skills and professional appearance. Overtime may be required, including during power restoration events. English is the business language of the cooperative; additional languages are a plus. Why Work for KEA?
