Our Opportunity We are looking for a Senior Level Accountant for our Corporate Office in Decatur, AL. This accounting position is integral to the accurate and timely review, recording and analysis of transactions that record the financial results of the company. This professional has the educational background and experience to ensure that the books and records are free from material misstatement and present fairly the results of the Company's operations. Please note that this hybrid position requires being in the office 4 days per week. Essential Functions Take ownership of accounting activities for assigned financial areas of approximately 10-30 profit centers Performs daily general ledger reconciliations and creates journal entries to ensure financial transactions are properly recorded Performs daily reconciliation of purchase orders to invoices, reclassifying variances to ensure accurate gross margin detail Complete month-end close activities, ensuring financial results are accurate, complete, and reported timely Maintains accurate financial statements for multiple profit centers to include: Cash, Accounts/Rebates/Other Receivables, Inventory, Other Asset and Investments, Accounts Payable, Purchase Order and Other Liabilities, and Income Statement ledgers Analyze financial results and identify significant variances to budget, prior year, and other relevant benchmarks Serve as a primary accounting contact for assigned locations, partnering with business managers and administrators to answer questions and resolve accounting and procedural issues Provide guidance and education to operational teams regarding accounting policies, procedures, and best practices Creates reports for management using ERP system, Microsoft Excel, and business intelligence software to audit activity, analyzing financial data, identifying variances to budget and prior year Recommend process improvements that increase accuracy, strengthen controls, and improve efficiency Support special projects and other initiatives within the Accounting team May participate in field inventory observations Required Qualifications BS degree in Accounting; may consider ten years' experience in related field 5-8+ years of progressive accounting experience Experience in a large-size company; ideally $1B+ revenue plus years previous experience in a related position CPA strongly preferred, but not required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, financial reporting, and general ledger processes Demonstrated ability to independently own significant portions of the month-end close process Solid experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and month-end close Demonstrated ability to analyze financial information, investigate variances, and resolve accounting discrepancies Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (PivotTables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, etc.) and proficiency with Microsoft Office Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain accounting concepts and processes to non-accounting professionals Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Demonstrated initiative, accountability, sound professional judgment, and commitment to continuous improvement Values teamwork and demonstrates willingness to support colleagues to achieve organizational goals Current driver's license; must be able to meet a Motor Vehicle Review in accordance with Company policy Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods and the use of hands to finger is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is helpful for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force may occasionally be required. While performing the duties of this job, good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, and copiers is needed. The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb, balance, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
