This position offers a unique opportunity for an ambitious accounting professional to gain direct exposure to plant operations, financial leadership, and strategic decision-making within an industrial manufacturing environment. This role is designed as a succession path to Plant Controller , providing significant visibility to executive leadership, broad operational involvement, and strong long-term career growth. In addition to a competitive compensation package, this position offers substantial bonus potential tied to company and plant performance. The Cost Accountant will partner closely with operations, production, purchasing, inventory, and leadership teams to ensure accurate product costing, inventory integrity, financial reporting, and operational analysis. Key ResponsibilitiesCost Accounting & Analysis Maintain and analyze standard costs, manufacturing variances, and cost structures. Monitor raw material, labor, and overhead costs to ensure accurate product costing. Analyze production efficiencies and identify opportunities for cost improvement. Prepare monthly cost reports and provide financial insights to plant leadership. Support annual standard cost updates and cost roll processes. Inventory & Manufacturing Support Maintain inventory accuracy and support cycle count and physical inventory processes. Reconcile inventory transactions and investigate discrepancies. Partner with operations and purchasing teams to understand material usage and inventory trends. Monitor production data and ensure proper financial treatment of manufacturing activities. Financial Reporting Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing activities. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes. Analyze operating results and explain variances to budget and prior periods. Develop reports and dashboards to support operational decision-making. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, controls, and efficiency. Participate in ERP system enhancements and process improvement initiatives. Support internal and external audits. Assist leadership with special projects and strategic initiatives. QualificationsRequired Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. 3+ years of accounting experience. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Ability to work cross-functionally with operations and plant personnel. Strong communication and organizational abilities. Preferred Manufacturing or industrial accounting experience. Cost accounting experience within a production environment. Experience with ERP systems. CPA or CMA designation (or pursuit of certification) is a plus. Experience in minerals, chemicals, construction materials, or heavy industry preferred. #IND2
