N/A Halcyon Days Consulting, LLC (HDC) is a veteran owned small business that specializes in the design and engineering of Tactical Mission Networks (TMN). This is a unique opportunity to join a small and high-performing team committed to delivering cloud platforms for exciting missions. HDC is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to join our growing finance team. This role will work directly with the VP of Finance and be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close activities, improving accounting workflows, and helping build a scalable accounting function. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong accounting fundamentals who enjoys solving problems, learning new systems, and taking ownership of their work in a hybrid environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Prepare, review, and submit journal entries to support accurate and timely financial reporting. Perform monthly account reconciliations and assist in resolving discrepancies and variances. Support month-end and year-end close process, including preparation of supporting documentation. Maintain the accuracy of the general ledger and ensure financial transactions are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Assist in the preparation of financial reports, analyses, and supporting schedules. Support payroll processing activities, including the review of payroll data, reconciliation of payroll-related accounts, and accurate recording of payroll transactions in the general ledger. Review and process employee expense reports for accuracy and compliance with company policies. Assist with corporate credit card expense activity and reconciliations, by supporting the review, documentation, coding, and recording transactions in accordance with established policies and procedures. Support internal and external audits by gathering documentation and preparing schedules. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support accurate financial data and reporting. Assist with the use and ongoing improvement of accounting systems and tools.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. 4+ years of accounting experience supporting general ledger accounting, reconciliations, financial reporting. Working knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls, and accounting best practices. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience working with large datasets and performing complex data analysis with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to independently reconcile complex accounts, analyze variances, identify discrepancies, and maintain audit-ready supporting documentation. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate unfamiliar issues, develop solutions, and exercise sound judgement with minimal supervision. Experience identifying process improvements, streamlining workflows, and driving operational efficiencies within the accounting function. Comfortable serving as a key contributor within a lean, high-performing finance organization and partnering effectively with stakeholders across the business. Excellent attention to detail. organizational skills, and written and verbal communication abilities. Candidates should expect to complete a practical, job-related Excel assessment as part of the interview process.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in a government contracting environment, including familiarity with federal contract accounting practices. Knowledge of indirect rate structures, cost pools, project-based accounting and contract types such as cost-plus, time-and-materials, and fixed-price contracts. Experience with accounting systems such as Unanet, Odoo, or similar ERP platforms, as well as supporting internal or external audits.
SALARY RANGE
$70,000-90,000 Benefits are provided in addition to the salary range.
