Now Hiring - Senior Accountant Iron Horse Companies LLC is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing team. Iron Horse Companies is a multi-division commercial plumbing and mechanical contractor serving projects across multiple states. Our work spans hospitality, multi-family, healthcare, education, institutional, tenant improvement, JOC, and design/build projects. The Senior Accountant will play an important role in supporting the financial health of the company and its growing operations. This position will work closely with leadership, project management, operations, HR, and field teams to maintain accurate financial records, monitor project financials, and improve accounting processes as the company continues to expand.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee general ledger accounting , including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation. Manage job costing and WIP (Work-in-Progress) reporting to ensure accurate project financials. Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, and subcontractor payments while maintaining strong vendor relationships. Ensure compliance with certified payroll reporting, prevailing wage requirements, and tax regulations . Process multi-state payroll taxes and assist with payroll reconciliations as needed. Work closely with project managers to track budget variances, project profitability, and cost allocations . Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes , including preparing financial reports for leadership. Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal, state, and local financial laws and regulations . Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, enhance reporting accuracy, and streamline operations .

Qualifications:

7+ years of accounting experience (preferably in construction, plumbing, or mechanical industry ). Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and construction accounting best practices . Experience with certified payroll, prevailing wage compliance, and multi-state payroll tax reporting . Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Foundation, Sage, or similar platforms). Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial modeling preferred). Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities . Ability to work independently and collaborate with project managers, field teams, and leadership. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred but not required).
