This role ensures accurate financial reporting in compliance with GAAP, supports operational decision-making, and serves as a key accounting partner to production, project management, and operations leadership. Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Month-End Close Lead and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. Prepare and post complex journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, payroll, equipment depreciation, and allocations. Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Maintain fixed asset and equipment schedules, including depreciation and disposals. Reconcile inventory. Construction Accounting & Job Costing Maintain and review job cost reports to ensure accurate cost coding and allocation. Monitor and reconcile work-in-progress schedules. Support percentage-of-completion and other construction revenue recognition methods. Analyze job margins, cost variances, and under/over billings. Partner with Project Managers and Production teams to resolve job cost issues. Revenue Recognition, Billing & Collections Ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP and construction accounting standards. Review billing schedules, change orders, and contract terms. Prepare and submit AIA billing documents in accordance with contract requirements. Prepare and submit invoices. Assist with retainage tracking and reconciliation. Ensure timely collections and maintain customer relationships. Accounts Payable, Subcontractors & Compliance Review subcontractor pay applications and lien waivers. Ensure proper accounting for subcontractor costs, materials, and labor. Financial Reporting & Analysis Prepare internal financial statements and operational reports. Analyze monthly financial results, job profitability, and variances. Support budgeting and forecasting, including labor and material cost analysis. Prepare ad-hoc reporting for operations and executive leadership. Audit, Controls & Process Improvement Support internal and external audits, including job cost and WIP audits. Assist with the development and improvement of internal controls and accounting procedures. Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. Identify and implement process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency. Systems & Cross-Functional Collaboration Maintain data integrity within construction accounting systems and ERP platforms. Assist with system implementations, upgrades, and integrations. Collaborate closely with Operations, Production, Project Management, and Sales. Serve as a technical accounting resource for non-finance stakeholders. Leadership & Mentorship Review work prepared by Staff Accountants and Accounting Clerks. Provide coaching and guidance to junior accounting staff. Promote best practices in construction accounting and internal controls. QualificationsEducation & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. 4-8+ years of progressive accounting experience. Construction or roofing industry experience required. Experience with job costing, WIP, and percentage-of-completion accounting required. CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction accounting principles. Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis. Experience with construction accounting software or ERP systems, such as Microsoft Dynamics. Payroll, equipment, and subcontractor accounting experience preferred. Core Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. High attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills with operations and field teams. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Work Environment Office-based role. Periodic extended hours during month-end and year-end close. Regular interaction with operations and sales teams.
