Job Description Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the financial operations of a medical practice group, ensuring accurate accounting, timely reporting, and strong internal controls across multiple entities, service lines, and locations. This role partners closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, revenue cycle leadership, and external CPA to support budgeting, compliance, and strategic decision making. The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining financial integrity in a complex, fastmoving healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities:
General Ledger & MonthEnd Close Manage the full monthend close process for all practice entities Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and intercompany transactions Maintain the general ledger and ensure proper account classification Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly (cash, AR, AP, payroll liabilities, prepaids, fixed assets, loans) Prepare consolidated financial statements and variance analyses Revenue Cycle & Cash Reconciliation Reconcile daily deposits, insurance payments, patient payments, and merchant services Validate revenue postings from the EHR/practice management system Monitor AR aging trends and collaborate with billing leadership on discrepancies Reconcile provider productivity (# of visits, charges) to revenue Support payer audits and revenue integrity reviews Accounts Payable & Purchasing Oversight Review AP coding, vendor invoices, and payment batches for accuracy Maintain vendor files, W9s, and annual 1099 reporting Monitor recurring contracts, leases, and service agreements Support procurement controls and expense management initiatives Payroll & Provider Compensation Review payroll for accuracy, including benefits, deductions, and PTO Reconcile payroll liabilities and ensure timely remittance Support provider compensation models (collectionsbased, bonuses) Maintain compensation documentation for compliance and audit readiness Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis Assist with annual budgeting and multiyear financial planning Prepare monthly budgettoactual reports with insights for leadership Analyze trends in revenue, expenses, staffing, payer mix, and productivity Support financial modeling for new providers, service lines, or locations Compliance, Controls & Audit Support Maintain internal controls for cash handling, AP, payroll, and financial reporting Ensure compliance with GAAP, Medicare/Medicaid rules, and healthcare financial standards Support external audits, CPA reviews, and tax filings Maintain documentation for regulatory and payer audits Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting (CPA preferred) 4-7+ years of accounting experience; healthcare experience strongly preferred Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, or similar) Experience with EHR/practice management systems (e.g., EMA/Modern Medicine, NextGen) Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, and internal controls Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, modeling) High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fastpaced clinical environment Strong communication skills for crossfunctional collaboration Work Environment Works closely with CFO, COO, billing leadership, and external CPA Supports multiple providers, service lines, and/or practice locations Onsite at corporate headquarters in
