Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a large retail organization in Tempe, Arizona. This onsite opportunity is a Long-term Contract position suited for an accounting specialist who thrives in a fast-moving, high-volume environment and enjoys owning critical close and reconciliation work. The role will contribute to accurate financial reporting, support day-to-day accounting operations, and collaborate across teams to maintain strong financial controls.

Responsibilities:

• Drive monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities to help ensure timely and accurate financial results.
• Create and examine journal entries, accruals, and ledger adjustments to maintain the integrity of financial records.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and monitor outstanding items, using BlackLine when applicable to organize and complete close-related tasks.
• Research variances and account discrepancies, then follow through on corrective actions and resolution.
• Support accounting activity related to retail operations, including high-volume transactions connected to inventory, revenue, and operating expenses.
• Contribute to the preparation of financial statements and internal reporting packages for management review.
• Work closely with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and operational partners to confirm the accuracy and completeness of financial data.
• Uphold internal control standards, accounting policies, and compliance requirements across routine accounting processes.
• Respond to audit support needs by assembling documentation and explaining account activity as requested.
• Recommend and support improvements that increase efficiency and accuracy within accounting operations. Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline preferred.
• 2-5+ years of accounting experience, ideally within a large company or multi-entity environment.
• Hands-on background in full-cycle accounting with direct involvement in month-end close activities.
• Experience with BlackLine is strongly preferred, particularly for reconciliations and close task management.
• Solid knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and core financial reporting practices.
• Advanced Excel skills, including functions such as pivot tables, lookup formulas, and data analysis tools.
• Familiarity with enterprise accounting platforms such as Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, or similar systems.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities with a high level of accuracy in deadline-driven settings.
