Job Description
Description We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our real estate client in West Hollywood, California. In this role, you will manage accounting operations for a multifamily property portfolio, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. The ideal candidate has a strong background in property accounting, excels in a fast-paced environment, and is familiar with AppFolio software.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update general ledgers for assigned properties, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Conduct monthly bank and account reconciliations to verify financial records.
- Review rent rolls and oversee accurate income posting across properties.
- Reconcile security deposits and trust accounts in compliance with regulations.
- Process and code vendor invoices while tracking and reconciling operating expenses.
- Assist with rent collections and monitor delinquency issues, coordinating with property managers to resolve tenant ledger discrepancies.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, including supporting schedules and variance analysis.
- Support investor reporting and distributions by preparing detailed financial data.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and maintain organized documentation for audits.
- Leverage AppFolio for accounting, reporting, and identifying opportunities for process improvements. Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in property management.
- Proficiency in AppFolio software is strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of accrual accounting principles and financial statement preparation.
- Advanced skills in Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and basic formulas.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
- Strong communication skills, enabling collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Experience with multifamily residential portfolios is a plus.
- Familiarity with Los Angeles rent control regulations is an advantage.
