ACCOUNTANT OPPORTUNITY!
The City of Hidden Hills is looking for a highly organized, motivated, and service-oriented Accountant to join our small but dedicated team. In addition to performing a wide range of accounting and payroll duties, you'll also have the opportunity to learn about other areas of local government and expand your public sector expertise. About the Role Reporting to the City Manager, the Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the financial health and transparency of the City. This position requires both technical precision and the ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments. You'll handle everything from payroll and audits to general ledger maintenance, grants, and budget analysis. Key Responsibilities Maintain the City's general ledger, prepare journal entries, and reconcile accounts Handle payroll processing, including retirement, taxes, and benefit deductions Prepare financial statements, audit schedules, and year-end reports Assist in preparing the City's annual budget and conduct cost analyses Monitor and report on grant funds, including compliance tracking Serve as the City's Health Officer for benefits administration Provide financial guidance to City staff and assist with departmental expenditures Prepare and file periodic reports for CalPERS and other government agencies Collaborate on special projects, events, and interdepartmental initiatives Support the City's outside auditors and serve as a key resource for financial inquiries
What We're Looking For Education :
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business/public administration, or related field. The following certificates are preferred but not required: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) - offered by AGA (Association of Government Accountants) Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
Experience :
At least 3 years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience, preferably in a public sector or municipal setting.
Skills & Attributes:
Knowledge of GAAP and public agency financial standards Working knowledge of the Gann Appropriations Limit (Proposition 4) Proficiency in QuickBooks, Excel, and financial software systems Ability to work independently with sound judgment and initiative Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities Friendly, professional, and eager to contribute to a team-focused culture Why Work With Us?
