Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join the team in Napa, California and provide dependable support across daily accounting operations while building toward broader financial ownership. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys working accurately, managing multiple priorities, and contributing to a strong reporting environment. Over time, the role will expand to include greater responsibility for closing activities, financial reporting, and process improvements, offering a clear path for career growth.
Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and on schedule.
Prepare journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and assist with monthly accounting close tasks.
Perform bank and account reconciliations to verify balances and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
Support inventory accounting and product costing activities, including processes specific to winery operations and compliance needs.
Maintain organized, accurate financial records that support timely internal reporting and sound accounting practices.
Take on increasing responsibility for month-end and year-end close procedures as the role develops.
Prepare internal financial statements and assist leadership with budget and forecast reporting.
Partner with external accounting professionals and tax advisors to support reporting requirements and filings.
Recommend and help implement improvements to accounting systems, internal controls, and reporting workflows. Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, or comparable accounting experience. Prior public accounting experience preferred.
At least 3 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role.
Hands-on experience participating in month-end close activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, and bank reconciliations.
Experience with inventory accounting, costing, budgeting, and forecasting.
Proficiency with Dynamics 365 Business Central and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Solid analytical skills with an understanding of tax-basis or accrual-based accounting practices.
Experience in the wine industry, financial statement preparation, eCELLAR, ShipCompliant, Bill.
