Implement process improvements within the Accounting Department that will support the growth of the business and improve reporting. We are seeking an Accounting professional who is experienced at leveraging technology and redefining workflow processes within a small and lean Accounting Department and optimize the way it functions. You will inspire and mentor others daily as they support the process. At least 5 years of accounting and leadership experience. You must be a self-starter, naturally organized, have excellent communication skills and a project management mindset along with a proficiency in Quick Books, Avalara, or Yonda tax compliance software. SUMMARY This individual will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting function and transactional accounting support staff of one, as well as establishing and enforcing appropriate accounting methods, policies and procedures that are aligned with GAAP. This position will have a thorough understanding of financial reporting and the general ledger, along with striving for continuous improvement both within the accounting department and through cross-functional teams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Proficiency in working with Excel and Quick Books Review, manage and optimize department workflow Monitor and analyze accounting data Create account reconciliations and journal entries for accuracy Manage cash related activities (e.g., deposits, collections, check runs, cash availability, AP aging review, deduction meetings) Direct the analysis of the financial statements, supporting schedules and reports Develop department budgets and forecasting activities. Oversee daily banking function including foreign currency transactions and wire and ACH transfers. Manage period/year end close process and related reporting and analysis Manage/review quarterly and annual income & sales tax returns and other compliance requirements. Support HR/payroll and company COO Develop policies/procedures and internal controls; ensure documentation is maintained. Supervision of Staff Supervise and direct day to day activities of transactional accounting staff Responsible managing and training of direct report Support, coach, and discipline direct report as needed Monitor and evaluate employee job performance Other Monitor emerging technology trends for automation opportunities Assist with or lead system implementations, integrations, and upgrades Manage departmental record keeping processes including archives and annual purge Exercise discretion and judgement to recognize, research and resolve issues Make recommendations or otherwise support business partners. REQUIREMENTS
Experience/Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required, senior booking experience Corporate and/or public accounting experience preferred Minimum five year's accounting experience, in a comparable environment Experience in accounting for manufacturing or wholesale company Successful experience developing and managing staff Successful experience implementing process improvements utilizing additional technology, where applicable. Proficient using QuickBooks online.
