Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities by preparing entries, reconciling accounts, and maintaining accurate supporting documentation.
- Review general ledger activity, investigate unusual balances, and help resolve outstanding accounting issues in a timely manner.
- Contribute to financial reporting and analysis by assembling schedules and responding to audit, tax, banking, and other external information requests.
- Provide backup assistance for billing and accounts receivable operations, including customer account research, aging review, collections support, and cash application tasks.
- Assist accounts payable functions during peak periods by reconciling vendor accounts, researching open items, and helping maintain accurate vendor records.
- Serve as a cross-trained backup for payroll by supporting reconciliations, recording payroll transactions, and investigating discrepancies when needed.
- Help document accounting procedures and support the creation of standard operating practices that improve consistency across the team.
- Identify opportunities to streamline manual work, strengthen controls, and improve workflows across close, AR, AP, payroll, and bank reconciliation activities.
- Participate in special projects such as historical account cleanup, reporting enhancements, percentage-of-completion accounting support, and future accounting system evaluations or implementation efforts. Requirements
- At least 2 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role.
- Hands-on experience preparing journal entries and working within the general ledger.
- Working knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Ability to perform account reconciliations, analyze discrepancies, and research unresolved items.
- Familiarity with month-end close procedures and financial support schedules.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach to cross-functional support.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for reporting and analysis.
