Job Description:
Tax Staff Accountant Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented Tax Staff Accountant with 2-3 years of public accounting experience to support tax preparation, client communications, and compliance workflows for individuals and business entities. The ideal candidate is organized, responsive, technically competent, and able to manage multiple deadlines during peak tax periods. Key Responsibilities Prepare federal and state tax returns for: Individuals (1040) Partnerships (1065) S-Corporations (1120S) Corporations (1120) Trusts and fiduciary returns, as applicable Prepare workpapers, reconciliations, and supporting tax schedules Review client-provided financial data for completeness and accuracy Communicate with clients regarding missing information and tax document requests Assist with tax planning projects and year-end projections Conduct tax research and document conclusions appropriately Respond to IRS and state tax notices with manager oversight Maintain organized electronic workpapers and follow firm workflow procedures Track deadlines and manage multiple engagements simultaneously Collaborate with managers, partners, offshore teams, and administrative staff to ensure timely completion of returns Support process improvement and workflow efficiency initiatives during and outside of busy season Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field CPA eligible (must have completed the educational requirements necessary to sit for the CPA exam) 2-3 years of recent public accounting tax experience required Experience preparing federal and state individual and business tax returns Strong understanding of tax compliance and accounting principles Proficiency with tax software and Microsoft Excel Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment Strong written and verbal communication skills Preferred Experience Experience with cloud-based accounting and tax platforms Familiarity with workflow management systems and document portals Experience working with outsourced or offshore teams is a plus Core Competencies Accountability and follow-through Client service mindset Time management and deadline ownership Problem-solving and analytical thinking Team collaboration Adaptability during busy season Schedule Expectations Full-time position with additional hours required during peak tax season Ability to work independently while maintaining communication with the team Hybrid office schedule
