Job Description
Description We are looking for a Payroll Accountant to join our team in California on a contract-to-permanent basis. This role is ideal for a payroll specialist who can manage end-to-end payroll operations with accuracy, maintain compliance across multiple states, and support timely reporting obligations. The position requires strong experience with ADP Workforce Now and a thorough approach to payroll processing, reconciliation, and tax-related activities.
Responsibilities:
- Administer complete payroll processing cycles from data review through final submission, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on schedule.
- Manage payroll activities for employees working in multiple states while applying appropriate wage, tax, and compliance requirements.
- Prepare, review, and submit payroll tax reports, resolving discrepancies and supporting timely filings and payments.
- Maintain and update payroll records in ADP Workforce Now, verifying employee data, earnings, deductions, and tax settings.
- Reconcile payroll registers, benefit deductions, and related general ledger entries to support accurate financial reporting.
- Investigate payroll issues, respond to employee questions, and partner with internal teams to correct variances promptly.
- Support audits and internal reviews by organizing payroll documentation and providing clear records for compliance purposes. Requirements
- Experience processing full cycle payroll in a detail-oriented business environment.
- Proficiency using ADP Workforce Now for payroll administration and record maintenance.
- Working knowledge of multi-state payroll practices, including applicable tax and compliance considerations.
- Background in payroll tax reporting, including preparation, review, and issue resolution.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
- Ability to reconcile payroll data and identify discrepancies with a high degree of accuracy.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
