Job Description
Description We are looking for an early-career Project Accountant to join a growing team in California. This contract opportunity is well suited for an entry-level accounting candidate who wants to build hands-on experience in project-based financial operations within a supportive, fast-moving environment. The position offers exposure to billing, reconciliations, cost tracking, and cross-functional coordination while providing room for long-term career growth.
Responsibilities:
- Set up new projects in the accounting system and keep project financial records accurate, current, and well organized.
- Prepare customer billings and invoices, ensuring charges are properly documented and submitted on schedule.
- Assist with accounts receivable activities by monitoring outstanding balances, following up on aging items, and supporting collection efforts.
- Partner with project managers to verify financial details and maintain accurate reporting for active jobs.
- Track job costs and help compile financial reports that support project oversight and decision-making.
- Contribute to month-end close tasks, including reconciliations, data review, and supporting schedules.
- Enter and maintain accounting data across project and financial records with a high degree of accuracy.
- Provide support for payroll processing, compliance-related reporting, and other general accounting duties as needed.
- Identify practical ways to improve workflows, reduce inefficiencies, and support both digital and paper-based processes. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
- 0-3 years of experience in accounting, billing, bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or project accounting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data analysis, and report preparation.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize work accurately in a deadline-driven setting.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with internal teams and project stakeholders.
- Positive, dependable, and coachable approach with a strong interest in learning and career development.
- Familiarity with accounting software, project accounting tools, or AI productivity platforms such as ChatGPT or Copilot is a plus.
