Job Description
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for an engineering organization in Simi Valley, California. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting timely month-end reporting, and helping ensure day-to-day transactions are processed efficiently. The individual in this role will partner closely with finance leadership while contributing to accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciliations, payroll support, and other essential accounting activities.
Responsibilities:
- Enter and maintain financial transaction data in QuickBooks with a strong focus on accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end close activities to support reliable financial reporting.
- Maintain the integrity of the chart of accounts and help organize accounting records that support profit and loss reporting and other financial statements.
- Manage billing, cash application, deposits, credits, vendor payments, and other accounts receivable and accounts payable tasks.
- Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis and help resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Review employee expense submissions, coordinate reimbursements, and preserve supporting documentation in an organized manner.
- Support payroll administration for employees and contractors by reviewing time records, processing payments, and retaining payroll files.
- Coordinate with insurance carriers on company coverage matters and assist with annual compliance reporting, including 1099 submissions and year-end audit preparation.
- Provide guidance to team members on accounting-related procedures and assist internal departments with non-confidential financial support requests. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of recent experience in an accounting role with hands-on responsibility for day-to-day transactional accounting.
- Working knowledge of general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement support.
- Experience handling both accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and confidence using accounting systems to manage and review financial data.
- Familiarity with tax-related tasks such as 1099 reporting, sales tax, or corporate tax support.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Sound judgment, dependability, and the ability to work effectively under the direction of finance leadership.
