Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Manage accounting activities related to inventory reserves, including evaluating excess and slow-moving stock in partnership with finance and operational teams.
- Review inventory transactions, cost adjustments, and account activity to confirm proper recording and accurate financial treatment.
- Work with cross-functional partners to interpret manufacturing cost activity and support period-end costing updates and analysis.
- Examine cost variances across materials, labor, overhead, yield, and production performance, then explain key drivers to business leaders.
- Research unusual cost or inventory fluctuations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions to improve financial accuracy.
- Coordinate with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, and external manufacturing partners to monitor inventory movement and understand cost inputs.
- Support financial oversight of outsourced and co-manufacturing arrangements, including review of related inventory and production costs.
- Contribute to month-end and quarter-end close by preparing journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, and producing inventory and spend reporting.
- Assist with financial reporting and management analysis by preparing schedules, summaries, and commentary for recurring reporting cycles.
- Enhance accounting processes, reporting tools, and system-based workflows through analysis, testing, and ongoing support for inventory and valuation functionality. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience in a comparable accounting role.
- At least 2 years of accounting or cost accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing, food production, or consumer goods.
- Solid knowledge of general ledger activity, month-end close procedures, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Understanding of inventory accounting concepts, including standard costing, actual costing, cost of goods sold, and valuation methods.
- Experience working with manufacturing cost components such as bills of materials, cost allocations, labor, overhead, and production variances.
- Ability to analyze financial results, identify trends or discrepancies, and communicate findings clearly to both finance and operational stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Excel and experience using ERP or other accounting systems to support costing, inventory, and financial reporting.
- Strong attention to detail, sound problem-solving ability, and the capacity to manage multiple deadlines in a high-volume environment.
