POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Fiscal Services Management participates as a member of the Fiscal Department team in maintaining agency financial operations in and efficient manner.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
PERFORMANCE
INDICATORS
Accounting (90%) Utilizing computerized accounting system, primary responsibility is the production of timely and accurate monthly financial reports; including monthly income statements, balance sheets, government reports, etc.; submit reports for approval as instructed. Analyzes asset and liability account balances, keeping accurate back up, and prepare adjustments as necessary. Participates in budget development; loads budget data to accounting system; updates financial projections, monitors expenses, as directed; allocates costs; and maintains files. Performs bank reconciliation. Participates in proofing payroll time entry data. Participates in entry or review Accounts Payable to ensure consistency with policies. Claims and other contract billing. Assists with periodic review and update of fiscal procedures; train program staff as necessary in fiscal procedures. Supports the agency safety program. Other duties as assigned within the scope of position classification. Recordkeeping (10%) Maintain filing system and record keeping, including all necessary back up and adjustments; prepare journal entries, as appropriate to accomplish goals. Other duties as assigned within the scope of position classification.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
Attends training and informational meetings as directed. Maintains confidentiality with respect to information and records concerning children, families, and staff. Other duties as assigned within the scope of position classification.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Accountant I Associate Degree in accounting and/ or related field or 2+ years' experience State regulations require a physical examination, current tuberculosis test, and verified fingerprint and criminal records clearance before beginning work. Possession of a valid drivers' license; current personal vehicle insurance or safe driving record sufficient to ensure insurability through Agency policy. Accountant II Bachelor's Degree in accounting and/ or related field. Or Associate Degree in accounting and/ or related field or 5+ years' experience Several years of applicable experience highly desired. State regulations require a physical examination, current tuberculosis test, and verified fingerprint and criminal records clearance before beginning work. Possession of a valid drivers' license; current personal vehicle insurance or safe driving record sufficient to ensure insurability through Agency policy.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of parents, employees of the organization, and the general public. Previous experience and familiarity with nonprofit fund accounting and experience in budget development is desirable. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. Ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles to routine activities. Ability to analyze accounting activity and make routine projections. Ability to understand and use a variety of computer applications and appropriate software, including spreadsheets and word processing; and workplace electronic technology, including internet access, and e-mail. Intermediate personal computer skills including, but not limited to: design and develop databases; computerized presentation/training materials; and advanced graphics design applications, may be necessary.
