Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00
PM Work Setting:
On-Site; potential for up to 2 remote days per week after 3 months, subject to approval and performance About the Organization Our client is a community-focused public-sector organization serving the Colorado Springs area. The Finance team partners closely with departments and organizational leaders to support financial operations, reporting, budgeting, compliance, and audit requirements. The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant for a 3-6 month contract assignment supporting our client's Finance Department. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who can step into a complex environment, work independently, and provide immediate support with month-end and year-end close, complex reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, audit preparation, and governmental/nonprofit accounting . The position reports directly to the Controller and is ideal for someone who enjoys contract work and can quickly take ownership of high-level accounting responsibilities. What You'll Be Doing Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures Prepare complex journal entries and general ledger reconciliations Complete account and bank reconciliations Review financial reports for accuracy and investigate discrepancies Assist with monthly and annual financial statement preparation Support annual external audits, including audit workpapers and auditor requests Assist with Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) preparation Apply GAAP, GASB, and FASB accounting standards Maintain fixed asset accounting records and support annual physical inventory requirements Support budgeting, grant accounting, and grant reporting Assist with purchasing documentation, vendor records, contracts, and related Finance activities Provide payroll support and serve as a payroll backup when needed Participate in special projects and provide accounting support throughout the organization What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance , or 4+ years of relevant accounting experience in lieu of education Strong experience with month-end and year-end close Experience preparing complex journal entries and general ledger reconciliations Financial statement preparation experience External audit support and audit workpaper experience Experience in a government, public-sector, and/or nonprofit accounting environment Working knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and FASB Fixed asset accounting experience Budget and/or grant accounting experience Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently with limited supervision Strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Excel Financial Talent Group provides equal employment and recruiting opportunities to all employees, applicants, and recruits for employment for Financial Talent Group and in recruiting employees for its clients, and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
