Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Real Estate Accountant to join our finance team. In this pivotal role, you will manage the accounting functions related to real estate assets, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and seamless integration of financial data. Your expertise will support our strategic growth initiatives and operational excellence within the real estate portfolio. Responsibilities Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports specific to real estate holdings. Reconcile general ledger accounts related to property transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Manage accounts payable and receivable processes for property-related expenses and income streams using financial software such as PeopleSoft, QuickBooks, or similar platforms. Conduct bank reconciliations and oversee cash flow analysis to optimize financial performance of property portfolios. Ensure regulatory compliance by preparing reports in accordance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), and other relevant standards. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making for property acquisitions, dispositions, and renovations. Support audit processes through detailed documentation, account reconciliation, and internal control reviews. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on technical accounting issues such as double entry bookkeeping, journal entries, and financial report interpretation. Maintain meticulous records of all financial transactions related to real estate assets while adhering to regulatory reporting requirements. Mentor junior team members on accounting best practices, software utilization, and regulatory compliance procedures. Experience Proven accounting experience within real estate or property management sectors; experience in nonprofit or governmental accounting is a plus. Strong knowledge of financial concepts including GAAP, double entry bookkeeping, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliation, and financial statement preparation. Hands-on experience with financial software such as PeopleSoft, QuickBooks, Quicken or similar platforms; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel for data analysis using functions like VLOOKUP. Familiarity with regulatory standards including SOX compliance and LIHTC regulations; understanding of securities law and estate law is advantageous. Demonstrated ability to perform detailed account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, cash flow analysis, and auditing procedures. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data for reporting purposes. Strong organizational skills with a focus on accuracy in financial report writing and interpretation. Experience mentoring team members or providing technical guidance in accounting processes is preferred.
