QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting Required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years accounting experience, with hands on experience for the majority of general accounting functions: accounts payable, fixed assets, general ledger, budgeting, payroll, etc. Required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Required
  • Extensive Microsoft Excel, Word and General Ledger accounting system experience. Preferred
  • Hand on experience with financial statement preparation including consolidating statements Preferred
  • Ability to problem solve based on policies and procedures
JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant performs duties relating to a timely and accurate month end close. Maintains records of routine accounting transactions. Assists in preparation of financial and operating reports including trial balances, adjustments and closing entries. May assist in analysis and interpretation of accounting records for use by management. Fills in as a back up to the accounts payable bookkeeper. Prepares State and Federal requested reports and assists in preparation of Form 990's. Prepares monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts, including bank reconciliations. Assists in the compilation of annual budget. Assists in special projects for the Fiscal Department. Problem solving requires basic analytical skills to select and apply the appropriate established policies and procedures and consult with manager on resolutions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires walking, standing and sitting with the ability to lift/carry and push/pull up to 20 pounds frequently. Occasionally required to lift/carry and push/pull up to 25 pounds. This position also requires the ability to bend, squat, balance, reach above shoulder height and twist frequently. This person must be able to maneuver around the printer. The ability to touch, see and hear are required continuously with fine manipulation.
COGNITIVE DEMANDS
This position requires thorough skills in computation, written and verbal expression/communication and reading/auditory comprehension. Discernment, perception, and concentration are necessary. Problem solving skills must also be of high quality with the ability to identify and solve most problems independently.
WORK DEMANDS
Usually works in a comfortable environment with adequate lighting and ventilation. Position requires the ability to continuously work with and around others. Refined manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Substantial over time may be required to complete reports and projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepare data needed to ensure an accurate and timely month end closing according to GAAP required standards Prepare and post recurring and manual adjusting journal entries. Perform a thorough self review of monthly financial statements and underlying support before submission to the Corporate Accounting/Budget Manager. Maintain regular contact with department managers regarding temporarily restricted funds available for their use. Maintain updated general ledger account reconciliations for all other balance sheets accounts. Prepare correcting journal entries as appropriate. Maintain knowledge of additional accounting functions to act as a back-up as assigned by Corporate Accounting/Budget Manager. Assists with the preparation of tax returns including unclaimed property, personal property tax, etc. Assist in the compilation of annual operating and capital budgets. Compile draft budget reports for management review.
