Job Description

Robert Half Staff Accountant New Haven, CT Apply Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a Long-term Contract position based in New Haven, Connecticut. This opportunity is ideal for someone who is confident managing reconciliations, preparing journal entries, and contributing to an accurate and timely month-end close. The role offers the chance to work across general ledger activities while using ERP systems and advanced Excel functions to maintain strong financial reporting and analysis.
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and post journal entries to ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and aligned with reporting deadlines.
  • Perform account reconciliations by researching variances, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining supporting documentation.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including reviewing balances and helping deliver timely financial results.
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy through routine analysis, account review, and correction of posting issues when needed.
  • Use ERP systems to process accounting transactions, track financial data, and support ongoing reporting requirements.
  • Create and analyze spreadsheets using Excel features such as PivotTables and VLOOKUP to organize data and identify trends.
  • Support corporate tax and sales tax activities by gathering financial information and assisting with related filings and documentation.
  • Contribute to the preparation of corporate tax return support schedules and other accounting reports as requested. Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
  • At least 3 years of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar role.
  • Hands-on experience with account reconciliations, journal entry preparation, and month-end close processes.
  • Working knowledge of general ledger accounting and financial record maintenance.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and the ability to navigate accounting platforms efficiently.
  • Strong Excel skills, including practical use of PivotTables and VLOOKUP.
  • Familiarity with corporate tax, sales tax, and related financial documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
