Recovery Network of Programs is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering high-quality substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health services across Fairfield County. With approximately 400 employees and an annual operating budget of $35 million, we serve thousands of individuals and families each year. Grants and contracts make up 42% of our total revenue ($14.6 million) and are funded by a diverse portfolio of approximately 25 federal, state, and local grants—ranging from large, multi-year federal awards to smaller contracts. Position Summary The Grant Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity, compliance, and sustainability of our grant-funded programs. Reporting to the CFO, this position is responsible for the full-cycle post-award financial management of our $14.6 million grant portfolio as well as grant budgets for new grant submissions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and experienced in nonprofit grant accounting, with a strong understanding of federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and the unique funding environment of behavioral health services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage day-to-day accounting for approximately 25 active grants, including revenue recognition, expense allocation, budget tracking, and fund accounting in accordance with FASB and grantor requirements. Prepare and submit timely, accurate financial reports, invoices, drawdowns, and reimbursement requests to federal, state, city, and private funders. Monitor grant budgets and expenditures, providing monthly variance analysis and forecasts to program directors and senior leadership. Ensure full compliance with grant terms, federal regulations (including 2 CFR Part 200/Uniform Guidance), cost principles, and internal policies; identify and resolve compliance issues proactively. Collaborate closely with program managers, and the finance team during grant setup, budget modifications, and closeouts. Perform monthly reconciliations of grant-related balance sheet and income statement accounts; maintain complete and audit-ready grant files and supporting documentation. Support the annual financial audit, single audit state audit, and any funder-specific audits or site visits. Assist with grant-related year-end closings, carryover requests, and final financial reports. Provide training and technical assistance to program staff on grant financial management, allowable costs, and documentation standards. Participate in proposal budget development and pre-award financial reviews as needed. Stay current on changes in nonprofit accounting standards, grant regulations, and behavioral health funding requirements. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive grant accounting experience in a nonprofit or governmental environment. Demonstrated experience managing a multi-grant portfolio (10+ grants) with a mix of large federal awards and smaller contracts—preferably in healthcare, behavioral health, or human services. Thorough knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles (FASB ASC 958), fund accounting, and federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200). Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, AI, and experience with nonprofit accounting/ERP systems (e.g., Netsuite, MIP, Blackbaud Financial Edge, Sage Intacct, or similar). Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex financial information for non-finance audiences. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy. Preferred Qualifications Experience with SUD, mental health, or federally funded behavioral health programs (e.g., SAMHSA, DMHAS, CSSD). Prior involvement in single audits or OMB compliance reviews. Familiarity with the Fairfield County funding landscape or similar regional nonprofit environment.
