Job Description
Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join our team in Stamford, Connecticut on a Contract basis for an approximately three-month assignment, to cover a maternity leave of absence. This role will support core accounting operations and help maintain accurate financial reporting in a hands-on, onsite environment. The ideal candidate brings strong month-end close experience, solid reconciliation skills, and the ability to manage a wide range of accounting activities with accuracy and sound judgment.
Responsibilities:
- Lead key accounting activities tied to the monthly close process, ensuring deadlines are met and financial data is complete and accurate.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and other recurring or adjusting transactions.
- Perform detailed general ledger and bank account reconciliations and investigate variances or outstanding items promptly.
- Review and support accounts payable, payroll-related accounting, treasury activity, and other day-to-day financial operations as needed.
- Maintain fixed asset records and ensure depreciation and related accounting entries are recorded correctly.
- Monitor general ledger exception reporting, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues to strengthen financial accuracy.
- Assist with compliance-related accounting matters, including non-payroll tax withholding and sales and use tax activities.
- Support specialized cash and banking processes, including foreign check collection, while coordinating with internal stakeholders as necessary. Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in senior-level accounting roles with direct responsibility for month-end close activities.
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation.
- Hands-on experience completing bank reconciliations and researching variances in a timely manner.
- Background supporting multiple accounting functions such as accounts payable, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, or payroll accounting.
- Ability to work onsite Monday through Friday in Stamford, Connecticut for the duration of the contract assignment.
- Familiarity with accounting and expense platforms such as UltiPro, Oracle-based systems, or Concur is preferred.
- Experience in a mid-sized business environment and exposure to broader finance team operations is a plus.
