$65-75k, commensurate with experience
Location:
West Haven, onsite Our client is seeking a hands-on Staff Accountant to support the organization's day-to-day accounting operations, general ledger activity, payroll and financial reconciliations. This position offers broad exposure across the accounting function and is ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of their work rather than being limited to one specific area. The responsibilities of the position may be adjusted based on the experience and strengths of the individual hired. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, self-motivated and comfortable balancing recurring accounting responsibilities with special projects and operational needs. Key Responsibilities of the
Staff Accountant:
Prepare monthly general ledger entries and maintain accurate supporting documentation. Perform bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies. Reconcile balance sheet accounts and prepare supporting Excel schedules. Prepare journal entries for cash deposits, credit card activity, payroll and other transactions. Review, reconcile and record company credit card activity. Prepare and submit sales tax returns and payments for multiple states Maintain fixed asset records and supporting invoice documentation. Assist with all aspects of accounts payable as needed. Manage petty cash activity and reconciliations. Support weekly payroll processing, including review of employee timecards, commissions, mileage, expenses and PTO. Reconcile weekly payroll activity and prepare the related journal entries. Calculate and submit weekly 401(k) contributions Maintain year-end 401(k) information and assist with completion of the annual census. Assist with employee files, benefits administration and workers' compensation reporting as needed. Support accounting activities for affiliated entities. Participate in special projects and process improvements as needed . Qualifications of the
Staff Accountant:
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on accounting experience will also be considered. Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries and account reconciliations. Understanding of balance sheet accounts and basic accounting principles. Payroll and/or accounts payable experience preferred. Experience with sales tax filings is a plus. Strong Excel skills and comfort working with accounting systems. Highly organized with strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
