Job Description

Advanced professional-level accounting work is assigned to the Treasury Division of the Finance Department. Works with a high degree of independence in performing accounting duties and assisting in revenue collection activities for the City. Supervises and coordinates clerical accounting tasks in establishing, revising, maintaining, and processing various accounting and financial records associated with billing, revenue, collection, and recordkeeping activities. Prepares journal entries and complex bank reconciliations, implementing corrections and resolving discrepancies as necessary. Reconciles general ledger and subsidiary accounts. Assumes responsibility for preparation of sales tax returns, schedules, and various financial reports. Contacts and works with state, county, and other local agencies. Processes documents for input into automated systems, tracks financial transactions on a daily basis, and responds to daily requests for account status and payment information. Assists external auditors. Performs related duties as required. Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field. Experience Experience in general or municipal accounting. A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Key Competencies Ability to make independent decisions within established accounting policies and procedures, while using good judgment to prioritize work and meet sensitive deadlines. Ability to prepare, analyze, interpret, and present complex financial data, statements, and reports. Proficient in personal computer use, including Microsoft Word & Excel, with strong communication skills to effectively interact with employees and the public. Physical Requirements Ability to operate various items of office-related equipment. No significant standing, walking, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, or pulling required.
