Apex Pavers & Pools is hiring an in-house Controller. You will own accounting for this company top to bottom and report directly to the President

• and you will also be the one entering the invoice, running the payroll, and chasing the coding error at 4:45 on a Friday.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We're a company that has been through real change and is building the next version of itself deliberately

• including rebuilding the finance function around better systems instead of more headcount. You'd be walking in with a mandate to fix things, not to inherit somebody's sacred process. If you like being the person who finally gets the WIP schedule right, who gets the job cost data clean enough that the field actually trusts it, and who automates the reports that used to eat three days a month
• this is a good seat.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN AND DO

All accounting operations hands-on: AP, AR, GL, payroll, month-end close, reconciliations. You run them, you don't supervise them. Job cost accounting and WIP schedules

• percentage of completion, over/under billings, margin by job Progress billing, pay applications, retainage, lien waivers, and subcontractor compliance Cash management, cash forecasting, and a weekly cash position the owner can actually run the company on Monthly financial statements and a reporting package for ownership, lenders, sureties, and outside stakeholders Budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis with real explanations, not just the numbers Sales tax, 1099s, insurance and workers' comp audits, and coordination with our outside CPA Internal controls•building them, and enforcing them Our accounting technology stack and the integrations between it and our field systems

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

5+ years in accounting leadership, with construction or specialty contracting experience strongly preferred

• WIP, job costing, retainage, and pay apps should be familiar territory Bachelor's in accounting or finance; CPA a plus, not required Someone who closes fast, closes clean, and doesn't need to be asked twice Genuinely interested in using AI and automation to do this job better.

We are actively building AI tools into how this company runs. We want a controller who is excited about that, not threatened by it. Works well with people who aren't accountants

• field supervisors, sales, and trade partners QuickBooks proficiency; JobTread, Sage, or similar construction platform experience a plus Strong Excel.

Comfortable in the data, not just the reports. Integrity that isn't negotiable. You'll have visibility into everything. That only works with the right person. No task is beneath you. Data entry, filing, chasing a missing lien waiver, sitting on hold with a carrier. If that reads as a downgrade, this isn't your job. If it reads as "good, then it gets done right," it is. Hardworking, in-office, full-time. You want the whole scope, not a slice of it.

COMPENSATION

$90,000
