Job Description

About CIS Solar Design We build custom solar and lithium power systems for RVs, marine, and off-grid rigs. Our shop is in Vero Beach; our customers are all over. We run a full custom-fab operation plus a Shopify store. Growth is fast. The books need to keep up. About the Role We're looking for a hands-on, no-drama Accountant who can run the books today and grow into our Controller inside 12 to 18 months. Real inventory, real product margin, real growth — this isn't a spreadsheet-only seat. You'll own the numbers, tell the CEO what they mean, and eventually build the finance function that lets us scale into the next stage. We're not looking for someone who's spent their whole career in a 500-person enterprise or a two-person bookkeeping shop — we want someone from a 20 to 50 person business who knows how the whole machine works because they've had their hands on all of it. What You'll Own Day-to-day accounting AP, AR, monthly close, bank and credit card reconciliations Inventory accounting for physical goods (lithium batteries, solar equipment, marine hardware) plus Shopify integration Financial reporting the CEO can actually use — P&L, balance sheet, cash flow Coordinating with our outside CPA at tax time Systems and cleanup We're on QuickBooks Online today and we want off. You'll help us pick the right platform (something that handles inventory + growing operations properly) and lead the migration Build the controls, close checklists, and approval workflows that don't exist yet Payroll oversight and reconciliation The Controller path Cash flow forecasting and budget-vs-actual reporting Strategic finance conversations with leadership
Eventually:
build and lead the finance team as we scale You'll Fit Right In If You… Get satisfaction out of turning messy books into clean, defensible numbers Have an actual opinion on what accounting software should replace QuickBooks Online — and why Have counted physical inventory in a warehouse and reconciled it to a general ledger Communicate clearly with non-finance people — the CEO wants insights, not just spreadsheets Prefer wearing multiple hats over being pigeonholed Want a Controller seat inside 18 months and are willing to earn it Experience + Qualifications Required 3-5 years accounting experience at a 20 to 50 employee company (not corporate, not a solo bookkeeper) Hands-on inventory accounting experience (retail, e-commerce, manufacturing, or trades) QuickBooks proficient with an opinion on what should replace it Comfortable in a growing small-business environment where you'll wear multiple hats Preferred Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance Shopify or e-commerce accounting integration experience Experience leading a software migration (out of QBO to Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar) Not required CPA (we're prioritizing hands-on operators over letters) Why CIS? Why Now? We're at the point where a good Accountant becomes an obvious Controller in 12 to 18 months. You'll be in the room where decisions get made from Day 1, not filtered through three layers of management. The books are clean enough to work with, messy enough that your fingerprints will be all over what we build. And it's Vero Beach, not Miami traffic. If you've been the "unofficial finance person" at a small company and you're ready to step up to a real Controller seat — this is your shot.
