Job Description

Staff Accountant Hughes Brothers Construction is now hiring! We are a heavy civil contractor specializing in large site infrastructure, underground utilities and roadway construction throughout Central Florida. The Senior Staff Accountant position will play a key role in the day-to-day accounting operations of the Company, with a strong emphasis on Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, job costing, and construction-specific financial processes. This is an on-site position requiring someone comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and maintain monthly WIP schedules, ensuring accurate percentage-of-completion calculations and reconciliation to the general ledger. Analyze job cost reports and work closely with project managers to ensure accurate cost coding and revenue recognition. Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations. Support billing processes, including AIA billing, progress billing, and retainage tracking. Monitor and reconcile job costs against budgets, flagging variances for management review. Prepare schedules and support documentation for external CPA firm during annual reviews/audits. Assist with cash flow analysis and forecasting. Collaborate with project managers, estimators, and operations team to ensure accurate financial reporting. Support AP and AR functions as needed. Assist with sales/use tax and lien waiver tracking as applicable to construction projects. Perform other accounting duties as assigned to support a growing department.
Desired Qualifications :
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in accounting or finance required, CPA license required, Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry, Hands-on experience with WIP schedules, GAAP, and percentage-of-completion accounting required, Experience with job costing and construction accounting softwares (e.g., Foundation and HeavyJob/HCSS preferred), Strong understanding of GAAP; familiarity with ASC 606 revenue recognition a plus, Communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally with operations and project teams
