An Accountant organizes and maintains financial records and prepares financial statements for companies and organizations. Works as a public accountant (prepares financial documents where public disclosure is required by law, such as business balance sheets and tax returns), management accountant (prepares financial information for internal use by a company) or government accountant (maintains records for government agencies).
Akina Tours & Transportation, a family-owned Maui transportation company serving our community since 1928, is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant / Senior Bookkeeper to join our team in Kihei. This is a hands-on accounting position for an experienced professional who can manage day-to-day accounting functions while providing management with accurate and timely financial information to support business planning and decision-making. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting and Sage/ QuickBooks experience along with the ability to assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow planning, financial analysis, and banking relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable Customer invoicing and collection follow-up Bank and credit card reconciliations Maintain Sage 50 Accounting, QuickBooks and general ledger Prepare and post journal entries Perform month-end close and account reconciliations Prepare P&L, Balance Sheet, and management reports Assist with budgeting and financial forecasting Prepare and maintain cash-flow projections Monitor budget-to-actual performance Maintain loan, fixed asset, and other financial schedules Assist management with financial analysis and business planning Prepare financial information for management, CPA, banks, and other financial partners Research and resolve accounting discrepancies Maintain accurate and organized financial records
Qualifications:
5+ years of accounting or senior bookkeeping experience preferred Strong Sage 50 Accounting, QuickBooks experience required Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close Experience preparing financial statements Budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow planning experience strongly preferred Experience working with CPA, banks or financial institutions preferred Strong Microsoft Excel skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through Ability to work independently and meet deadlines Accounting, Finance, or Business degree preferred but not required with sufficient hands-on experience Small-business accounting experience is a plus
Schedule:
Full-time preferred; however, we are open to a flexible part-time arrangement for the right candidate who can commit to a minimum of 30 hours per week over at least four days . This is an in-person position at our Kihei office .
Compensation:
$30-$42 per hour , depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits are available to eligible employees.
