COMP NEGOTIABLE AND COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE
O'Neil Metal Buildings & Roofing is a growing steel and post-frame construction contractor based in Belleville, IL, serving Metro East Illinois and the greater St. Louis market. We're looking for a part-time Controller to bring financial structure and oversight to the business as we scale. Position Overview This is a part-time role, approximately 20-30 hours per week to start, with room to grow as the company grows. This position requires being in our Belleville office 3-4 days per week — candidates should be based in or near Belleville, IL, or a reasonable commuting distance (O'Fallon, IL; St. Louis, MO; or similar Metro East/St. Louis area communities). What You'll Do Own day-to-day financial operations: job costing, AP/AR, cash flow management, and monthly close Track quoted vs. actual costs across active construction projects Prepare financial statements and reporting for ownership Manage payroll coordination and vendor payment processes Support budgeting, forecasting, and margin analysis by job and by division Work with outside CPA/tax advisors on quarterly estimates and year-end filings Help build out financial systems, controls, and reporting processes as the company scales Provide financial visibility across affiliated entities (construction contracting and commercial real estate development) Required Qualifications (If you do not meet these requirements, you need not apply, as it will not be considered) Experienceworking in the construction industry — this is non-negotiable given the nature of job costing, retainage, and project-based revenue recognition in this business Prior experience with a small to medium-sized company , ideally in the $5M-$20M annual revenue range — we need someone who has operated in an environment similar to ours, not a large corporate finance department Ability to manage and produce financial reporting across up to six entities Strong understanding of job costing and construction accounting practices Proficiency with accounting/financial software (QuickBooks or similar) High attention to detail and comfort working with ownership directly on financial decision-making Preferred Qualifications Experience with multi-entity accounting (construction contracting and real estate/development) Familiarity with S-corp tax structures and small business tax planning considerations
Position Details Part-time:
20-30 hours/week initially In-office requirement: 3-4 days/week in Belleville, IL (Remote candidates will not be considered) Employment type: open to either W-2 employee or 1099 contractor arrangement
Compensation:
commensurate with experience Benefits open for discussion
Pay:
$1.00 - $2.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 - 30.0 per week
