Job Description

Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. This position will be responsible for a variety of accounting functions, including monthly bank reconciliations, motor fuel tax reporting, account reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable support, and general ledger activities. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of accounting experience , strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines. Experience in transportation, petroleum, fuel distribution, or a related industry is a plus. Key Responsibilities Prepare and complete monthly bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies. Prepare and file motor fuel tax returns and related regulatory reports. Reconcile general ledger accounts and maintain accurate supporting documentation. Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures. Record and review journal entries and supporting schedules. Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed. Review transactions for accuracy, proper coding, and appropriate documentation. Monitor and reconcile customer and vendor accounts. Assist with fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules. Prepare financial reports, account analyses, and other management reports. Maintain organized accounting records and documentation. Assist with annual audits and provide supporting documentation as requested. Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and unusual transactions. Assist with compliance reporting, including motor fuel taxes and other applicable regulatory requirements. Work with operations and management to ensure financial transactions are accurately captured and properly supported. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiencies. Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned. Qualifications 3-5 years of accounting experience required. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Strong understanding of general accounting principles. Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close processes. Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting software. Experience preparing tax filings or regulatory reports is preferred. Motor fuel tax experience is highly desirable. Transportation, petroleum, fuel distribution, or terminal accounting experience is a plus. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information. This individual should be comfortable asking questions, identifying discrepancies, and looking for ways to improve processes rather than simply processing transactions.
