Job Description

We are pleased to offer the current job opportunity for an Accountant within the County's Finance Department. This position will be responsible for performing accounting work in the maintenance and review of fiscal accounts. For detailed information on paid time off, visit Employee Policy Manual , Section 5 Responsibilities include: Performs basic accounting functions such as collecting, analyzing, reconciling, recording, and reporting on financial information Assists in the preparation of the Single Audit (OMB circular A-133), the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA), the Consolidated Year-End Financial Report (CYEFR), the Annual Financial Report (AFR), and the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), including developing work papers, preparing schedules, reconciling accounts, and creating year-end accrual entries Audits financial information to ensure compliance, completeness, and accuracy Prepares journal entries to ensure that transactions are properly categorized and entries are balanced Reconciles cash and investment balances in the General Ledger with the Treasurer's Office Cashbook subledger Assists with research and preparation of policies and procedures Prepares grant fund (i) allocations, (ii) expenditures (e.g., approval of invoices, payroll, and indirect costs), (iii) cash reconciliations, and (iv) cash request draw-downs from granting agencies Prepares bank reconciliations and monitors escrow accounts Provides accounting information to Finance Department managers, external department staff, program staff, program monitors, internal auditors, and external auditors Prepares monthly, quarterly, annual, and closeout fiscal reports Monitors budgets, expenditures, and encumbrances by fund, and prepares budget transfers as needed Manages capital assets by tracking additions/deletions, maintaining lifecycle schedules, calculating depreciation, and conducting physical inventories Assists in preparing special accounting reports Requirements include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience: Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business One (1) to three (3) years of experience in financial accounting The preferred candidate will: Have experience working with an ERP system within a financial environment Have experience in governmental accounting Have experience in administering grants Be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or be progressing towards earning a CPA Have a Master's degree in Accounting or be progressing towards earning a Master's degree in Accounting A passing score on a basic Word and intermediate Excel test is required. A pre-employment background check is required.
