Job Description
Staff Accountant Position Summary The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records with a primary focus on account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting the month-end close process. This role plays a key part in ensuring the general ledger is accurate, complete, and closed on a timely basis each period. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines. Key Responsibilities Core Duties Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy, proper coding, and complete supporting documentation. Perform monthly account reconciliations — including bank, balance sheet, and intercompany accounts — and research and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Support the month-end close process by completing assigned tasks within established deadlines, including accruals, reconciliations, and journal entry preparation. Additional Responsibilities Assist with the preparation of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow) in accordance with GAAP. Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts, identifying and communicating variances or trends to management. Maintain fixed asset records, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules. Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed. Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process by gathering and analyzing financial data. Assist with internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules and providing supporting documentation. Help maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies and procedures. Perform ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as assigned. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 1-3 years of relevant accounting experience (internship experience considered for entry-level candidates). Working knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, lookups) and general comfort with the Microsoft Office suite. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Experience with an ERP or accounting system (e.g., SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage Intacct, or QuickBooks). CPA license or active CPA candidate. Experience in [industry, e.g., manufacturing, healthcare, real estate]. Exposure to month-end close and financial statement preparation. Reporting Relationship Reports to the Accounting Manager, Controller, or Assistant Controller. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco/Highspring notes the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting.
