Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant role supports the business through recording and accounting for a variety of transactions, reconciling accounts, preparing financial reports and other required documents, and completing variance analyses. This role will work directly with the Accounting Manager to ensure timely monthly and year-end close and reporting requirements are met. Some overtime during month end and year end are necessary to meet required deadlines. This experienced accountant must be consistent, dependable, motivated, and willing/able to ramp up quickly. They must own tasks assigned including completing the entire close process for multiple small non-operating entities. This position also must be able to adapt to change and pivot as needed to meet business needs.
Essential Job Functions and Key Responsibilities:
Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, allocations, and supporting schedules. Prepare, review, and maintain timely balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations; investigate and resolve variances. Maintain general ledger integrity by ensuring appropriate classification/coding, supporting documentation, and compliance with GAAP and internal policies. Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and management reports; provide insights on key drivers, trends, and variances. Support budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis as needed. Participate in the preparation of budgets, review budget submissions, and prepare necessary supporting documentation and justification for budget rollup. Coordinate with Accounts Payable/Receivable and operational teams to ensure accurate accounting for transactions and cut-off. Assist with external audit, tax, and regulatory requests by providing schedules, documentation, and explanations. Assist operations personnel with monthly reporting including updating and tracking KPI metrics. Work with people at all levels of the organization to report, monitor and manage key financial and non-financial performance indicators. Provide support for setup, testing, migration and implementation of new software. Provide backup for various positions in accounting department as assigned. Drive process improvement and automation initiatives (e.g., close optimization, reconciliation tools, reporting enhancements).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
General Ledger, Financial Reporting, GAAP, Financial Analysis Excellent collaboration with other departments, auditors, and affiliated teams Detail oriented in completion of work and review process; ability to review work of others or related departments as needed Solid organizational and time-management skills Strong technology skills, including advanced Excel skills Ability to work in multiple systems and with data from a variety of sources
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field. 3+ years of progressive accounting experience and/or proven experience in a similar role. Strong knowledge of accounting principles and general ledger accounting. Hands-on experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations. Proficiency with Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookups) and experience working in an ERP system. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, communicate clearly, work independently but also in groups as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of progressive accounting experience and/or proven experience in a similar role. CPA or CPA-eligible; public accounting experience a plus. Experience in any of the following a plus: consolidation process, system integrations, fixed assets, registrations and business licenses, property tax, various tax experience including sales and use tax, report writing, treasury management, benefit plan reporting/audits.
Preferred:
2 to 3 years of accounting experience in a 3PL, manufacturing, or transportation environment Past supervisory experience a plus (depending on candidate may manage staff) On-site position: 2 Plum Street, Wilder, KY 41076
