Our Middleton, MA facility is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our finance team. The Cost Accountant will play a critical role in managing and analyzing project and operational costs to support accurate financial reporting, profitability analysis, and strategic decision-making. This position is ideal for a proactive professional with strong technical accounting skills and experience in a job-costing environment. ITAR Here Key Responsibilities:
Perform job costing activities, including tracking, allocating, and analyzing direct and indirect costs associated with projects and client engagements. Lead or support the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate recording of costs, accruals, and adjustments. Prepare and analyze financial statements, including cost of goods sold, gross margin reports, and variance analyses. Assist in the development and monitoring of annual budgets and forecasts, working closely with department heads to provide cost insights and recommendations. Maintain and improve cost accounting systems and procedures to enhance efficiency and data accuracy. Reconcile inventory, work-in-progress, and cost accounts on a regular basis. Conduct detailed cost variance analysis and provide actionable insights to management. Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries related to cost accounting. Collaborate with project managers, operations, and other finance team members to ensure accurate costing and billing. Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects as assigned by the Controller.
Qualifications and Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
Experience:
Minimum of 3+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting, preferably in a services or project-based environment. Hands-on experience with job costing methodologies. Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Global Shop, JobBoss, Sage, QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, or similar). Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with high attention to detail. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
