Public Staff Tax Accountant
We are looking for a Staff Tax Accountant to join a CPA firm in Maryland in a Contract to permanent capacity. This opportunity is ideal for a tax specialist with prior public accounting experience who is comfortable preparing individual returns and communicating directly with clients. The role offers the chance to support a range of personal tax engagements, from straightforward filings to more involved returns, while working closely with a collaborative team in an onsite environment with potential flexibility over time.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare individual income tax returns with accuracy, handling both routine filings and more complex personal tax work as assigned.
- Meet with clients to gather information, clarify tax matters, and provide knowledgeable support throughout the return preparation process.
- Organize and review financial documentation to ensure tax filings are complete, timely, and aligned with applicable requirements.
- Communicate clearly with clients and internal team members regarding outstanding items, filing needs, and return status updates.
- Assist with bookkeeping-related activities such as reviewing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliation details when needed to support tax preparation.
- Utilize firm tax and accounting software effectively, including learning internal tools and processes through provided training.
- Maintain strong attention to detail while managing multiple deadlines during busy tax periods.
- Contribute to a collaborative, client-focused office environment.
- 2-4 years of tax experience in a public accounting environment.
- Background working in a smaller CPA firm is strongly preferred, though candidates from larger firms will also be considered.
- Hands-on experience preparing individual tax returns.
- Ability to interact directly with clients in a detail-oriented and confident manner.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with tax and accounting tools such as CCH ProSystem Fx, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
- Working knowledge of tax accounting fundamentals and supporting processes such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
