Job DescriptionJob Description We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of a multi-branch commercial HVAC construction and service organization. This role will be responsible for general ledger accounting, job cost analysis, financial reporting, and in-house payroll processing . This position is ideal for an accounting professional with construction or project-based accounting experience who enjoys working closely with operations to ensure accurate job profitability and strong financial controls. What You'll Do Financial Accounting & Reporting Prepare and post monthly journal entries including accruals, payroll, prepaids, and revenue adjustments Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes Prepare internal financial statements and supporting schedules Analyze revenue, labor, material, and overhead variances Maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation Assist with audit preparation and year-end tax support Ensure accurate financial reporting across multiple branches Manage sales and use tax filings Construction & Job Cost Accounting Review and analyze job cost reports for construction and service divisions Reconcile job cost subledger to the general ledger Monitor labor burden, overhead allocation, and cost coding Support progress billing and time-and-material billing processes Provide project profitability reporting to leadership Payroll Processing Process weekly in-house payroll for corporate office employees Ensure accurate time imports and labor coding to jobs Reconcile payroll reports to the general ledger Prepare and post payroll journal entries Maintain payroll records and ensure confidentiality Ensure compliance with federal and multi-state payroll regulations Internal Controls & Process Improvement Maintain strong internal controls over payroll and financial reporting Document accounting procedures and workflows Assist with system improvements and accounting automation initiatives What We're Looking For Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance Construction, mechanical contractor, or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred Payroll processing experience required (multi-state preferred) Strong understanding of job cost accounting Experience with ERP/accounting systems (construction-based systems a plus) Strong Excel skills Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational abilities High level of discretion with confidential financial information Company DescriptionAmerican Mechanical Services (AMS) is one of the nation's leading providers of commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) maintenance, repair, replacement, and new equipment installation, as well as plumbing and related services.
