Freestate Electric Freestate Electric is a growing and well-established electrical contractor seeking a Staff Accountant to support our construction accounting operations. This role is ideal for someone who understands the fast-paced nature of the construction industry and has experience working with subcontractors, job costing, and project-based financials. Responsibilities Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts across multiple active projects Perform job cost accounting (labor, materials, subcontractors, overhead) Process AIA billings, pay applications, release of liens and other forms Posting payments and reconciling customer accounts Maintain organized project documentation (contracts, change orders, etc.) Monitoring accounts receivable aging and following up on past due balances Track retainage and manage lien waivers and compliance documentation Support project managers with budgeting, cost tracking, and variance analysis Assist with monthly close, accruals, and financial reporting Prepare Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and support revenue recognition Support audits and provide required financial documentation Accounts payable and payroll processing backup Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 2-5+ years of accounting experience (construction or subcontracting preferred) Experience with job costing, retainage, and progress billing Familiarity with electrical or trade subcontracting is a strong plus Experience in a union environment or with union reporting is a plus Technical Skills Experience with construction accounting systems (e.g., VISTA or similar) Familiarity with Procore or similar project management tools is a plus Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis) Knowledge of AIA billing preferred Company DescriptionLarge, well-established construction contractor that is focused on being the best contractor inMD-VA-DC
