Job Description

Webster Pacific LLC is looking for a detail-oriented, client-focused Staff Accountant to join our growing operating partner firm in Portland, Maine. This is a full-time role, with openness to part-time for the right candidate who wants to grow into a full-time position. The Staff Accountant will provide structure and consistency across our bookkeeping clients and be a key player as we scale. Webster Pacific is rapidly growing, serving small to midsize businesses with fractional CFO, AI, bookkeeping, and operations roles.
Core Responsibilities:
Own full monthly close for assigned clients: journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, AP/AR aging, and clean, investor-ready financials Monitor and manage AP inboxes across multiple client accounts, coding and routing bills for approval; issue client invoices and follow up on AR collections Process vendor bill payments and manage AP workflows (Bill.com and similar tools), including W9 collection and 1099 remittance Perform bank and credit card reconciliations Learn and use AI in your accounting workflows Maintain and troubleshoot books across a variety of software, including QuickBooks Online, Xero, and SAP, including new-client onboarding cleanups, migrations, and chart of accounts reviews Coordinate with payroll platforms (Gusto, Justworks, or similar) as needed for client accounts Support the fractional CFO/controller team by updating cash flow models and assisting with other financial reporting as capacity allows Identify and help build process improvements that bring more structure and consistency alongside an appreciation and focus on financial controls and security Communicate directly with clients on day-to-day bookkeeping questions and monthly deliverables
Compensation and Anticipated Start Date:
$60,000-$70,000 per year, depending on experience. WP also offers medical, dental, and vision benefits. Start would be immediate. This position is based in Portland, Maine at our 30 Exchange street office with an in-office expectation of 3 days per week minimum. The Ideal Candidate:
Has 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, ideally at a fractional/outsourced accounting firm managing multiple client accounts at once Has experience accounting for businesses with inventory and significant fixed assets Is proficient in QuickBooks Online, Xero, Netsuite, and/or SAP Has experience with AP tools (Bill.com, Ramp) and payroll platforms (Gusto, Justworks, iSolved) Is highly organized and comfortable juggling deadlines across several clients simultaneously Has explored AI and is excited to learn and use it more Is detail-oriented, accurate, and takes ownership of the numbers Is a clear communicator, comfortable talking directly with clients Is interested in growing beyond bookkeeping into broader financial analysis over time Is a team player who wants to help build structure as we grow the bookkeeping practice Why Webster Pacific?
