The ideal candidate will have commercial or residential property accounting experience, a strong understanding of accrual accounting, and excellent organizational and Excel skills. The Property Accountant role is an onsite position. This is a direct hire position. Property Accountant Responsibilities Manage accounting activities for a portfolio of approximately 10-12 properties. Create and record receipts to the appropriate tenant accounts. Review and approve vendor invoices for payment. Manage cash flow for multiple properties, including invoice timing, owner capital calls, and distributions. Create miscellaneous and non-recurring property and tenant charges. Prepare monthly accruals and adjusting journal entries. Perform monthly property close-outs, bank reconciliations, and operating reports. Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for accounting records. Reconcile tenant, vendor, and general ledger accounts. Abstract tenant leases and maintain accurate tenant records. Maintain tenant charge, recovery, lease clause, and option schedules. Prepare annual CAM reconciliations as needed. Assist with annual operating budgets. Support external audits by preparing workpapers, gathering documentation, and responding to auditor requests. Work directly with property managers, owners, and external accounting or tax professionals. Provide a high level of service while addressing accounting questions and resolving discrepancies. Maintain accurate and organized financial records and ensure accounting activities are completed timely and accurately. Property Accountant Requirements Two or more years of professional accounting experience. Commercial property accounting experience preferred; residential property management experience also considered. Strong understanding of accrual accounting concepts. Strong Microsoft Excel skills. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Candidates with significant commercial accounting experience may also be considered in lieu of a degree. Yardi Property Management software experience helpful but not required for candidates with strong accounting skills. Experience working with tenant records, processing transactions, and reviewing tenant activity preferred. Ability to manage accounting activities across approximately 10-12 properties. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work directly with property managers, owners, and owners' tax accountants. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
