Job Description

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support the finance team in Oakdale, Minnesota. This Long-term Contract position is well suited for someone who takes pride in accurate financial reporting, strong reconciliation practices, and a disciplined close process. The role focuses on maintaining reliable ledger activity, reviewing retail-related transactions, and helping ensure reporting deadlines are met in a high-volume environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Record and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, and cost allocations, while maintaining accuracy in the general ledger.
  • Complete detailed reconciliations for balance sheet accounts such as cash, bank activity, credit card settlements, and inventory-related balances, resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Contribute to month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to support the timely preparation of financial statements and related reporting.
  • Review retail financial activity across store operations, including sales reporting trends, multi-location expense analysis, and transaction-level accounting support.
  • Prepare and organize supporting schedules and workpapers so documentation is audit-ready for internal reviews and external requests.
  • Assist with sales tax reporting by gathering required data, validating account activity, and supporting accurate filings.
  • Monitor general ledger integrity by investigating unusual variances, identifying errors, and recommending corrective entries where needed.

  • Experience working in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role with responsibility for general ledger maintenance.
  • Strong working knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliations, and bank reconciliation processes.
  • Ability to manage balance sheet reconciliations and maintain accurate supporting documentation.
  • Familiarity with retail accounting concepts, including sales activity, inventory-related accounts, and sales tax considerations.
  • Proven ability to support month-end close deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume business environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and commitment to financial accuracy.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for financial analysis and reconciliation.
