Job Description

Description We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to support financial operations for a government organization in Gladstone, Missouri. This Contract position will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting period-end activities, and ensuring the integrity of day-to-day accounting processes. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a structured, deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead monthly closing activities by preparing and reviewing financial data to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Maintain the general ledger by recording, analyzing, and adjusting accounts in accordance with established accounting standards.
  • Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Perform detailed account reconciliations to identify discrepancies, resolve outstanding items, and maintain clean balances.
  • Complete bank reconciliations regularly to verify cash activity and ensure alignment between bank records and internal accounts.
  • Review financial transactions and supporting records to strengthen accuracy, consistency, and compliance across accounting operations.
  • Assist with reporting needs by organizing financial information and providing clear documentation for internal stakeholders.
  • Support process continuity and other assigned accounting activities as needed to meet departmental deadlines and operational goals. Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in senior-level accounting roles with responsibility for core financial close activities.
  • Strong working knowledge of month-end close procedures, general ledger management, and financial account analysis.
  • Proven ability to prepare journal entries and complete reconciliations with precision and consistency.
  • Experience handling bank reconciliations and resolving variances in a timely manner.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and accurate recordkeeping practices.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with cross-functional teams and documenting financial activity.
