Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support accounting operations for a university-based organization in Saint Louis, Missouri. This is a Contract position suited for an individual who can manage core financial activities with accuracy and consistency. The role will contribute to timely reporting, maintain reliable records, and help ensure tax and reconciliation tasks are completed efficiently.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries to keep the general ledger accurate and up to date
• Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies as they arise
• Support sales tax and corporate tax return activities by organizing data, reviewing records, and assisting with filings
• Analyze financial transactions and maintain documentation to strengthen audit readiness and reporting accuracy
• Use Microsoft Excel to compile reports, track account activity, and perform detailed account analysis
• Partner with internal stakeholders to gather financial information and clarify accounting issues in a timely manner Requirements
• Experience working in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role
• Practical knowledge of journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger support
• Familiarity with sales tax processes and corporate tax return preparation
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills for analysis, reporting, and data organization
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively
