Type:
full-time Boater's World Manufacturing Group is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to join our growing boat manufacturing operation in Chocowinity, North Carolina . This is a hands-on manufacturing accounting position responsible for standard costing, inventory valuation, manufacturing variance analysis, and cost reporting for our NauticStar boat manufacturing operation. The Cost Accountant will work closely with the Controller, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to understand production processes, maintain accurate product costs, analyze manufacturing performance, and help establish strong cost-accounting processes as our manufacturing operation continues to grow. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining accounting and data analysis with direct exposure to manufacturing operations. Key Responsibilities Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Analysis
- Develop and maintain standard costs for raw materials, labor, and manufacturing overhead
- Analyze purchase price, labor efficiency, and manufacturing overhead variances
- Maintain accurate costing across NauticStar boat product lines and models
- Prepare monthly cost-accounting reports and gross-margin analysis
- Analyze manufacturing costs and identify significant trends or variances
- Assist with scrap, rework, and warranty-related cost tracking
- Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to understand production processes and accurately model manufacturing costs Inventory & Production Costing
- Manage work-in-process (WIP) and finished-goods inventory valuation
- Reconcile perpetual inventory records to physical inventory counts
- Participate in physical inventory and cycle counts
- Investigate and resolve inventory and costing variances
- Review bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and cost structures for accuracy
- Support fixed-asset tracking and capitalization for plant equipment and tooling ERP, Reporting & Month-End Support
- Support manufacturing costing within the Epicor ERP environment
- Validate BOMs, routings, cost layers, and related manufacturing data
- Assist the Controller with month-end close activities related to inventory, cost of goods sold, and manufacturing accruals
- Help develop cost-accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Support tangible personal property tax reporting as needed
- Assist with year-end audit requests and prepare inventory, cost, and fixed-asset schedules for external auditors Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- 3+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of standard costing, BOM/routing structures, inventory valuation, and variance analysis
- ERP experience required
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and variance modeling
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Comfortable spending time on the manufacturing floor to understand production processes firsthand
- Ability to work effectively in a growing organization with evolving processes and controls
- Ability to work full-time on-site in Chocowinity, North Carolina Preferred Qualifications
- Boat, marine, RV, automotive, or similar durable-goods manufacturing experience
- Epicor ERP experience
- CMA certification or progress toward CPA/CMA
- Experience supporting manufacturing inventory, physical counts, and cycle counts
- Experience with manufacturing ERP implementation or transition activities Work Environment This is a full-time, on-site position in Chocowinity, North Carolina . The Cost Accountant will work in both office and manufacturing environments and should be comfortable spending time on the production floor to understand manufacturing processes, inventory movement, and product costing.
