Job Description:
Staff Accountant PURPOSE This position will provide support to the Corporate Controller in maintaining accurate financial records, improving accounting processes, and assisting with monthly financial close activities. Duties will include account reconciliations, recurring journal entries, accruals, allocations, financial analysis and process improvement activities. This role will help to identify bottlenecks, improve accounting workflows and support the Controller with special projects and reporting needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Prepare and post recurring journal entries, monthly accruals, allocations and reclassifications. Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate variances. Assist with month and year end close activities. Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for assigned accounts. Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness and proper coding. Assist with fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules. Reconcile bank accounts, fuel card activity, credit cards, prepaid expenses and other assigned accounts. Research and resolve discrepancies in accounting records. Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks and manual processes and recommend and assist in designing practical solutions. Create and maintain process documentation and standard operating procedures. Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation. Verify completeness and accuracy of accounting information received from operating departments. Assist in developing accounting best practices across the organization.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors or Associates degree in accounting, finance or related fields preferred. Candidates currently pursuing an accounting degree will be considered. 0 to 3 years' experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance. Intern or Co-op experience in accounting is preferred. Experience in transportation, logistics, fuel, fleet or trucking industry is preferred, but not required. Advanced computer skills with an emphasis on Excel is required. Experience with accounting software or ERP systems is preferred. Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy and strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision. Excellent organizational skills and follow through are required. Dependable with professional judgment, accountability and confidentiality.

50000.00 - 55000.00 per year
