Job Description

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join a manufacturing organization in Newark, New Jersey. This role supports core accounting operations by helping maintain accurate records, preparing reconciliations, and contributing to timely financial reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong corporate accounting experience, sound technical knowledge, and the ability to work effectively with both finance leadership and cross-functional partners.
Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities by preparing entries, reviewing balances, and helping keep reporting timelines on track.
  • Produce balance sheet reconciliations and supporting documentation to confirm account accuracy and resolve outstanding items promptly.
  • Examine general ledger activity, research unusual fluctuations, and address discrepancies to improve the reliability of financial data.
  • Post and validate journal entries while maintaining complete and organized accounting records.
  • Assist in compiling periodic financial statements and related schedules for management review and external reporting needs.
  • Reconcile critical accounts such as revenue, accruals, fixed assets, and debt to ensure completeness and consistency in reporting.
  • Work closely with leadership and internal stakeholders to support compliant, accurate, and timely financial reporting.
  • Respond to audit requests by gathering records, preparing support files, and coordinating with internal and external auditors.
  • Recommend and support accounting process enhancements that strengthen efficiency, accuracy, and control within the department. Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a corporate accounting setting.
  • Practical experience with enterprise accounting systems is required.
  • Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, close activities, and financial reporting standards.
  • Advanced Excel capabilities, including functions for lookup, summarization, and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, along with strong organization and attention to detail.
