Construction Accountant Job Type:

We specialize in educational facilities, healthcare institutions, municipal buildings, infrastructure improvements, occupied facility renovations, ADA upgrades, building restorations, masonry restoration, site development, streetscape improvements, roofing, and interior and exterior renovations. We are seeking an experienced Construction Accountant to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction accounting, job cost accounting, and public construction contract administration. Job Summary The Construction Accountant is responsible for managing all accounting functions related to construction projects, including job cost accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, project billing, payroll support, financial reporting, and contract compliance. The ideal candidate must have extensive experience working with construction companies and possess a strong understanding of public construction accounting, prevailing wage projects, and government contract requirements. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Manage all day-to-day accounting functions for multiple construction projects. Maintain accurate job cost reports and allocate project expenses appropriately. Process and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable. Prepare owner billings, AIA payment applications, progress billings, and requisitions. Review subcontractor invoices, payment applications, lien waivers, and supporting documentation. Process subcontractor payments and maintain payment schedules. Track project budgets, committed costs, and cost-to-complete reports. Monitor project profitability and prepare job cost analyses. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting. Perform bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and general ledger reconciliations. Prepare and process journal entries. Maintain fixed asset and depreciation schedules. Assist with payroll processing, certified payroll reporting, and prevailing wage compliance. Prepare W-9s, 1099s, and year-end tax documentation. Coordinate with project managers regarding project budgets, costs, and billings. Assist with contract administration, retainage tracking, and change order accounting. Reconcile project schedules of values and monitor contract balances. Prepare reports for management regarding cash flow, project performance, and financial status. Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, banks, bonding companies, and insurance providers. Ensure compliance with company policies, GAAP, and government contract requirements. Maintain organized accounting records and project documentation. Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience , with at least 7 years in construction accounting. Extensive experience working for a General Contractor or Construction Management firm. Strong understanding of construction job costing, project accounting, retainage, schedules of values, AIA billing, and progress billing. Experience with public construction contracts and government-funded projects. Knowledge of prevailing wage requirements, certified payrolls, and contract compliance. Experience preparing financial statements and job cost reports. Proficiency with QuickBooks Enterprise, Sage 300 (Timberline), Foundation, or similar construction accounting software. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office. Strong understanding of GAAP and construction accounting principles. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Must be able to reliably commute to the company office. Education Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Preferred). CPA designation is a plus.
